My husband Phil made me laugh yesterday, the sheer mention of a joint bank account freaked him out! haha. What is it with men and logical thinking? They think that by setting up a joint account is like signing their life away! It wasn't this hard getting him down the aisle! That was the easy part, imagine when a baby comes along - which it will hopefully!
The idea around it is so that we can jointly save in an account which is mine and his that we both can't touch for a year. That way the temptation of using that money for things like a night on the raz or a "42 inch plasma TV" or a "motorbike" that he wants is not there because we can't touch it! haha. I said unless that bike can have a side car attached for a baby then he aint getting one, until he has a mid life crisis or something.
Well when I mentioned the joint account it was like I was asking for him to be celibate for the rest of his LIFE!! haha. I just had to say to Phil that it is no more a commitment than getting married for goodness sake! So fingers crossed, today I may be able to get him to the bank to do this before he chages his mind! But I am sure he will be happy in a year when he see's the benefit of it. We are terrible at saving, so if we have to set a standing order to take money off us before we have chance to spend it, then so be it! Wish me luck!

My partner and I opened an account together a while ago for bills, payments etc... its my back-up account for shoes!
I WISH my wife had her own account. Here's what my check register looks like:
1: Electric
2: Shoes
3: Clothes
4: Shoes
5: Car payment
6: Shoes
7: Shoes (how many f*cking FEET does this woman have?!?)
8: *Void* (used for credit application at shoe store)
If you only wear flip-flops, then you may be okay with the joint account.

Haha thanks for your comments guys, I will try an resist the shoes, but it's actually a bag fetish that I have!!! haha. Is there a way we can ask the bank not to let us touch it for a year or give us a bank card? Maybe that would help?
